Super Sunday

Peggy at aMazing Grace~~Mazes, Messes, Miracles usually does a Super Sunday meme.

However, Peggy is taking a blogging hiatus during Lent--a time for her to refresh herself and grow closer to our Lord. I have volunteered to take this over for her.

It's really very simple!! All you need to do is post a graphic, a picture of a scene, a Scripture that you have perhaps come across this week that has spoken to you of God's Glory! Then come back and link up!! I know that Peggy will be thrilled to later see who has participated and what their offerings to God were today!

I actually came across this verse when I was searching for a background for my desktop for the month of March. And this verse definitely spoke to me!!

Let's face it--sheep are not the most intelligent creatures that God has created. They need guidance from the shepherd--constant prodding with the staff to go forward and to stay with the flock, pulling with the crook of the staff to come back and be safe from danger.

When I read this verse, I felt very grateful that our Father is also our shepherd--guiding us along life's paths. He knows each of us individually, knows our name, and we know our Father, our shepherd.

As the sheep know the shepherd's voice, we can learn to listen and discern God's voice from all the others in the distraction of everyday life--and there are a lot of distractions to contend with!

But, here is the part of the verse that spoke to me the most--just as a shepherd will lay down his own life for his flock, Jesus has laid down His life for me, for you, for each and everyone one of us.

I can't think of one other person in my life that would actually do that for me--lay down their very lives for me. Can you?

Jesus is the only answer to this question. Jesus is the one who laid down His own life for us, and because of His love for us, we must learn to love one another--even the unlovable--as He commanded us to--bringing each of His sheep home to Him.

I am so thankful that God sought out this sheep named Beth and opened her eyes and ears so that she could see and hear of God's love for her--the only unconditional love available.

You see--I was lost, blind and deaf to everything God had to offer me. But, with one touch, He opened all my senses to see and accept His love.

I've had an exciting and busy past few weeks, and God has been with us every step of the way!

When I think of myself, how small and insignificant I am in this world, I sometimes wonder how God--with all He has in His control--even finds time for me and each and every one of us.

But, He does. He loves, He cares, He is my joy and hope every day of my life.

Since I'm moving today, I wanted to let you know that I'll be without internet service until Wednesday.

Since I'm not exactly sure when the cable/internet company will be coming, I decided to postpone the Weekly Memory Verse until next Monday.

Thankful Thursday

I'm joining Sonya at Truth 4 the Journey for Thankful Thursday!! Be sure to visit her and see what all the participants are thankful for this week!!

Here are my 5 "thankfuls" for this week:

• I am thankful that my daughter, who suffers from severe asthma seems to be on the road to recovery, without too much medication, and did not require hospitalization. This is the time of year that she has been hospitalized for this three years in row!

• It snowed just a little bit yesterday--just enough to cover the trees with a dusting of snow. When I came home from work there was a bright red male cardinal sitting in a tree right outside my bedroom window. This was a beautiful sight--the brilliant red of the cardinal against the white of the snow. I'm thankful that I was in the right place at the right time and was able to see this--not quite quick enough to get a picture though!

• I am thankful that after this snow changed to a bit of freezing rain, my son arrived home from work safe and sound, without incident.

• On Monday, I had the opportunity to hear a young woman who is a missionary speak. She is leaving for East Asia in July for a two year term there, coming home for a short period and then returning. She talked of the culture there and what she will be doing which deals mainly with human trafficking. I'm thankful that I had this opportunity and that God used this time to open my and several others eyes to this horrific tragedy.

• And I am thankful for cardboard boxes!! I have used many of these packing during the past few weeks, and I am so grateful for them! Just makes my life a little bit easier at this point!

And there you have it!! My 5 "Thankfuls" for this week!!

Love the Lord

This verse and song has a very special meaning to me because it is the very song that was sung in the very first church service I attended after a very long time away--too long!!

Everyone was singing, clapping and rejoicing in the Lord, and I was wondering why I had left His love behind me for so many years!! Never, ever again!!

Listen and Obey

If you've been following along, you'll know that I've been reading Stormie Omartian's book, "The Power of Praying Through the Bible."

This week, we're on the third chapter which involves listening to God.

The section of Scripture to "read and consider" is Genesis 6:9-22, and the particular verse that Stormie has zeroed in on is:

Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God....Genesis 6:9

I can think of many in the Bible who "walked with God". But, Noah does stand out as example of a man who not only "walked with God", but he listened and obeyed to exactly what God was telling him to do.

Now, I can just imagine this: Noah going about his daily business, and God comes to him and says, "Noah, I want you to build an ark." Poor Noah! He doesn't even know what this means!

And Noah listened to God and obeyed exactly to what God was telling him to do, down to the last cubit!

I've always thought about the ridicule and the jokes that Noah and his family must have endured. Yet, Noah continued with his task to its completion, trusting that God told him to do this, and he must listen and obey.

God had looked upon His creation, and I'm sure He was saddened. All was corrupt with the exception of Noah and his family. They were the only ones standing firm and faithful in God. They stood alone for God in the culture they were living in.

Many centuries later, Jesus describes this time:

"For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving up in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man."........Mattthew 24:38-39

Jesus is giving a warning here about going about daily duties, our "to-do lists", letting the busyness of our day to day lives overtake us and prevent us from stopping and listening to God.

How easy it is to start our day with a "Thank You, God , for this day.....continue on with OUR list of requests from HIM, and then just move on.....move on without stopping to listen to what God is requesting from US.

This is what Stormie says in her book:

"What would our lives be like if we took the time not only to talk to God but to listen to Him as well? What if we determined to obey what He tells us to do--no matter how much our society might scoff at us?



Do you want to walk with God? Then in your prayer time, listen carefully for His voice. You may hear Him leading you in a new direction, with a new purpose, and with courage you never knew you had!"

Walking with God: Live each day with an awareness of God's presence, depend upon God's faithfulness even through times of doubt, talk with God, listen for the sound of His voice and then obey--knowing that if God has set you to a task, He will see you through to its completion.

My Father,

I come to You today to ask You to help me be a better listener. Help me not only to talk with You, but then to listen for Your voice throughout my day and obey Your instructions for my life.

Help me not to be drawn by the distractions of this world, but to lean on You for my strength and courage in doing whatever it is You are asking of me. Help me to be a person who says "YES" to you immediately, without hesitation, without even considering what "others" may think or say.

Call me to the task, Lord, and I will follow. I know that You will give me the strength, the building blocks, the courage to finish to completion whatever You call me to in this life.

Lord, You know this is a busy time in my life right now. I get so confused sometimes even knowing what to do first. Help me to remember to stop and say, "Lord, what is it that You want me to do today?" and then to listen for Your voice and obey.

Help me to stand firm in this world, standing true in my faithfulness to You, just as you stand firm and faithful to me.

In Your Son's Name, I pray,
