Scriptures to Pray Over Your Children 

Ephesians 1:17-19 

Lord, give our children the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, and the knowledge of You. That the eyes of their hearts be enlightened that they will know the hope to which you have called them, the riches of Your glorious inheritance in the saints and His Incomparably great power for us who believe.

Ephesians 3: 17-19 

These children are rooted and established in love; we pray that they may have power with all the saints to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ towards them, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge, that they may be filled to the measure of the fullness of God.

Ephesians 5:1 and 21

Our children will be imitators of God and live a life of love. They will submit to others out of reverence to Christ.

Ephesians 6:1,2

Our children will obey their parents in the Lord. They will honor their father and mother so that it may go well with them and that they may enjoy long life on earth. 

1 Timothy 4:12 

No one will look down on our children because they are young, but they set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in faith and in purity.

Psalm 103:2-5 

Thank you Lord that our children won’t forget His benefits. You forgive all their sins and heal all their diseases. You redeem their lives form the pit, and crown them with love and compassion. You satisfy their souls with good things so that their youth is renewed like the eagles.

Psalm 1:1-3  

Our children do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly or stand in the path of sinners or sit in the seat of scoffers. But their delight is in the law of the Lord and on His law they meditate day and night. They are like the trees planted by the rivers of water, which yield their fruit in season and whose leaf will not whither, and whatever they do prospers.

Our children seek You with all their hearts; they will not stray from Your commands; they have hidden Your word in their hearts that they may not sin against you.

They will call upon You and You will answer them You will be with them in trouble, You will deliver them and honor them and with long life You will satisfy them and show them Your salvation.

Acts 1:8, 2:38  

Our children will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. They will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them.

Joel 2:28 

Thank you Lord that it will come to pass that You will pour out Your Spirit on our children; our sons and daughters shall prophesy, dream dreams, and see visions.

1John 4:4  

Greater is He that is in our children the he that is in the world.

Isaiah 24:13.14 and 17 

All our children shall be taught by the Lord and great will be their peace, their health, safety, protection and prosperity. In righteousness they will be established. Tyranny will be far from them; they will have nothing to fear. Terror will be far removed; it will not come near them. No weapon formed against them will prosper.

The hearts of our children are like good soil, they hear the word, accept it and produce a crop….100 times that which was sown.

Today I join with Peggy in prayer:

Lord, today I need to know you as my strength and my deliverer. You know me inside and out, God, and You know my heart, my desires, my very thoughts. I ask that you protect me and shield me from all undesirable thoughts and desires. Close my ears to those that malign me or try to hurt me with their words. Let me hear Your Word of truth, love and Your promises to me instead of the lies of the enemy.

Open my eyes, my heart, my soul. Allow Your Holy Spirit, which lives in me, to guide me through this day. Help me to pause to hear Your voice above all the clamor and noise of this world. Then help me to obey what You are telling me.

So often during my day I find that I am too busy, too distracted, too overwhelmed. Lift me up, Lord, and relieve this overwhelmed and stressful me. I so want to do what You want me to do, You know I do. My days are filled to the brim with negativity, cutting remarks, unrelenting demands. These are not from You, Lord.

I ask that You filter out the negatives and fill me with Your positives...the promise of Your faithfulness, Your unchanging love, Your power and Your strength. Carry me throughout this day with Your strength and do not allow me to rest on my own....I am solely relying on Your strength and power for I have none of my own left in my body. I am broken again, Lord....broken....and I need You to put the pieces back together and show me where to go.

Today, when I hear someone malign someone else, replace in my mind these words with Your Word--the truth of the entire situation. Guide me, Lord....please guide me....for I am lost.....lost without You.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God...Psalm 20:7.

My Father, I know You have the power and the strength to do everything...even what I consider to be impossible....I ask that You increase my trust and faith in You....You alone, Lord....

In Your Son Jesus' most precious Name I pray...for this day and every day of my life,

Lord, I am hungry... hungry for more of You and seeking You & Your will... but there are many in the world who are hungry for more... I bow my head and repent, but giving thanks as well... for all I have that You have provided. Just knowing You causes me to fall on my knees, in awe of Your grace, Your mercy, Your love and the privilege of knowing You as Lord & Savior... I fall in love with You more and more each time I'm in Your Presence... I love You, thank You for loving me...

This week we were asked to reflect on Jesus as Priest and Prophet (words in green are from Ann Spangler).

Jesus is both Priest — the One who faithfully bears us into God's presence by virtue of his self-sacrifice — and Prophet — the One who perfectly communicates God's Word to us.

We are called to listen to him, to trust in his work, and to take our places as part of a kingdom of priests who in Christ Jesus offer ourselves on behalf of others.

TUESDAY

Reflect On: Leviticus 16 and Hebrews 4:14 - 16.
Praise God: For sending us a High Priest who can sympathize with our weaknesses.
Offer Thanks: For the forgiveness you have been granted.
Confess: Any tendency to believe that you alone can pay for your sins.
Ask God: To help you approach him with confidence because of Jesus.


WEDNESDAY

Reflect On: Hebrews 8:7 - 12; 9:11 - 14.
Praise God: For giving us a High Priest able to deal decisively with our sins.
Offer Thanks: For the way Christ has cleansed your conscience.
Confess: Any tendency to reject the forgiveness that Jesus offers.
Ask God: To help you begin and end each day with the assurance of his forgiveness.


THURSDAY

Reflect On: 1 Peter 2:9 – 10; 1 Corinthians 14:1 – 3.

Praise God: For giving you the privilege of becoming an intercessor.

Offer Thanks: Because Jesus has called you into service in his kingdom.

Confess: Any selfishness that impedes your prayers.

Ask God: To increase the power of your prayers and to give you a desire for the gift of prophecy.

"As Christians we know that our primary purpose in life is to imitate Christ. The goal is to become as much like Jesus as possible, expressing his heart to others. But did you know that becoming a “little Christ” also involves taking on certain of his roles? When it comes to Jesus’ role as Priest and Prophet, the New Testament makes it clear that believers belong to “a royal priesthood” and that we are all to desire the gift of prophecy."

As you pray to Jesus as both Priest and Prophet, ask Him to help you understand the deep meaning of these titles so that you can live out their truths in your life.

"To intercede is to bear others on the heart in God’s presence. . . Intercession thus becomes not the bombardment of God with requests so much as the bringing of our desires within the stream of God’s own compassion. . . . The compassion of God flows ceaselessly toward the world, but it seems to wait upon the cooperation of human wills. This cooperation is partly by God’s creatures doing the things which God desires to be done, and partly by prayers which are also channels of God’s compassion.

Real intercession, then, does not consist in presenting God with a laundry list of demands or requests. Instead it involves spending time in God’s presence, seeking his will, being guided by his Spirit as we offer up prayers on behalf of others. . . . Real intercession is not merely a petition but a piece of work, involving costly self surrender to God for the work he wants done on other souls. 

Ask Christ to increase your desire to be like Him, to speak His Word with a pure heart, and to reflect His love by becoming an intercessor, taking others into your heart so that you can carry them into God’s presence through prayer."

Since I am an intercessor and prayer warrior, then the words that Ann shared and her two books on "Praying in the Names of God/Jesus" are essential tools for me to apply in my prayer life and see the power of the Name of Jesus with a better understanding. In the 90s, I learned about praying God's Word, taking scripture and turning it into prayer. So that is why I have chosen to highlight or emphasize the above that stood out to me this week.

Yes, Jesus...I desire to be more like You, to speak Your Word with a pure heart and reflect Your love as I pray and intercede for others. May I have such a burden and love for others and their needs that my heart will lift them and carry them into Your Presence and place their needs before Your throne...

...this is the reason we established "The Lighthouse of Prayer" and this week, leading up to this Sunday, Pentecost Sunday is GLOBAL DAY of PRAYER (GDOP). The entire world will have people praying and interceding. Each of the 10 days preceding this PRAYER day, I have shared GDOP's prayers over at The Lighthouse of Prayer, because they are taken from the model for prayer, The Lord's Prayer, the Our Father...

So once more, Our Heavenly Father, has aligned what we are doing here and there with His Global concern for the church... to unite and stand together in prayer... He has called us to REPENT this year... not just for ourselves, but the sins of many and the whole world. Lord, lead us once more and teach us to pray in Jesus' Name.

Our Father, ... who art in heaven, hallowed be Your name,Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven...

The Breath of Prayer

I'm reading a book I've recently purchased called "The Power of Praying Through the Bible" by Stormie Omartian. I'm taking this book slowly--not rushing through this--because there is a lot to learn and absorb in this book. The author starts in Genesis, going through the Bible through to Revelation--a little excerpt on a verse with a portion of the Bible to read and ends with a prayer.

I thought I would take a few minutes to share the first few pages of this book with you.

The first prayer study is called "God's Connection with Us". The portion of the Bible to read is Genesis 1:26-2:7, and the particular verse to focus on is Genesis 2:7:

"The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."

As God created the world into being, He didn't remain impersonal in His creation. He became personally involved with human beings, breathing the very breath of life into us. By doing so, He gave us the ability to speak. Without breath, we wouldn't be able to perform this feat.


We breathe in and out, and we speak with the inspiration and expiration of our breath.

I remember each of my children's first words--how thrilled I was to hear them speak!! Even their first sounds which I had to deciper to understand!! But, I understood what they were saying and was awed when they began to verbally communicate with me and others.

God gave us these abilities. He bestowed them upon us--the ability to breathe and the ability to speak. When I think of how thrilled I was to hear my own children's first words, I am just wondering how thrilled God must be when we speak to Him through prayer. He is waiting there, listening for us to speak to Him, utilizing the ability that He Himself gave us.

I remember when I first re-turned to God. I was hesitant to pray because I really didn't know how. I heard others praying, and I was just amazed. I had never heard prayer before. This wasn't something we did in my home during our growing up years. In church, only the Pastor of the church prayed--no one else.

So, I was at a loss as to where to begin.

If you are like I was and feel hesitant to speak to God through prayer, Stormie gives a little hint in her book. Start small. Breathe a prayer to God. Say "Thank you for" slowly, breathe in slowly using this time to think of what you are thankful for. Then breathe out saying the words to express your gratitude to God.

Sounds simple enough, doesn't it? So, start praying today to thank God for whatever you are thankful for in your life at this given moment. It doesn't have to be something big.

Breathe in--"Thank you, God"........Breathe out........."for your unfailing love."

A simple prayer to God that He is waiting to hear. He's there waiting for each of us to speak to Him. just as we waited for our own children to speak to us. Start simple by just breathing your prayers to Him. He gave us the breath of life. Breathe back your thanks to Him.

A Quiet Time With God--The Beginning

Before we begin, I just want to make this perfectly clear. I am far from an expert on prayer. I have been wanting to enhance my prayer life, my time with God. So, I did some reading on this subject and just wanted to share with you what I have learned.

Also, if you haven't read the previous post, you might want to go back and look it over before beginning today.

Now, are we all ready to begin? Do you have your Bible, a small notebook, a pen or pencil and yourself? Okay--here we go!!




We are all on a spiritual journey, and we are all on different places in our walk with our Lord. Some of us are baby Christians, some are toddlers taking their first wobbly steps, some are in their teens, and some are mature adults.

But, whatever level we are one in our own personal life, I think that each of use realize and understand that the most intimate communion with God comes through prayer.

The apostle Paul knew this when he wrote:

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition,
with Thanksgiving,
present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds
in Christ Jesus."

Phillippians 4:6-7

So, how do we accomplish this? How do we achieve this peace? How do we learn to talk with God, a quiet time with God every day--a time that we look forward to and don't try to squeeze into our busy schedules. This is what we are going to discover together over the next several days.

In my readings, I have discovered the fact that if we want the best information about any subject, we need to go to an expert in that particular field. If we want to become good at something--a sport, playing the piano. and yes, praying, we need to practice.

In order to learn to pray effectively, consistently, have that quiet time with God every day in our lives, we need to practice and discipline ourselves. Most importantly, we need to study the expert in this field.

We need to look at the person of Jesus Christ. No one has ever prayed more fervently, had more intimate conversations with His Father, or understood the power of prayer more than Jesus. He is the expert of prayer. We are going to examine how Jesus prayed and learn how to apply this to our own lives.

God is willing, ready and able. He is waiting for us to come to into His presence expectantly every day--with an attitude of worship, faith in Him, trust in Him, hope in Him, love for Him--just waiting for us to speak intimately with Him.

No concern of ours is too small or too big for God to handle. We are HIS children, and He wants to hear from us. Think of your own children--are you happy when you pick up the phone and hear their voice? Does it make you feel joyful when you are able to give your children a gift--something they have been longing to have?

Now, apply your own feelings about your children to God's feelings about His children. How much greater joy will God receive when we speak to God, come to Him with our praise, our thanks, our needs and concerns--no matter how great or small.

Paul writes in Romans 8:16-17:

"The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit
that we are God's children.
Now if we are children, then we are heirs--
heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ,
if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that

we may share in His glory."

This is an absolute promise from God. He will cover us with His blessings because we are His children, sons and daughters of the King, and heirs to His Kingdom!

Now, it's time to journal for today:

• Reread the above Scriptures and describe how these verses speak to you personally about each and every need in your life.

Just reading these verses from Phillippians gives me peace. Knowing that I can take my
anxieties, my cares and concerns, my needs (no matter how great or small) to God,
present them to Him, knowing He is in control (no, not me!) relieves me and brings me
tranquility and peace. Sometimes, I will go over and over things in my own mind,
discussing whatever the problem or need is with others, and in my head I already am
telling myself, "I know, I know what the answer is." I have presented this to God already
and He has answered me. It's a matter of moving my head knowledge to my heart.

• Read Psalm 86:5-7. If you don't have a Bible, I have these verses here for you. Meditate on these verses and express in your journal about this makes you feel, knowing that God will answer you.

I feel a great sense of relief!! Knowing that God hears me, will answer me (maybe not in
the way I expected), and knowing beyond a doubt that His will is what is perfect and best
for me. I know that whatever is on my mind, I can bring to Him (He knows
already, anway!) in prayer, and He will embrace me, cry with me, laugh with me, and see
me through. He has never let me go--even when I was far from Him. I am His child and
He loves me always.

• Write a prayer of thanks to God for what you are learning from His Word.

My Father---I thank you for your Word, where I can go in any circumstance in my life,
and learn what You have spoken. There is much in your Word that I do not truly
understand. Please open my heart and mind to your teachings, so that I may follow
You more closely.

• Write your prayers to God, asking Him questions, telling Him your needs, your fears, any concerns you may have.

Abba--I love you. You are mighty and powerful and hold the entire world in Your hands.
I confess to you my sins, some of which I have committed knowingly, and some unknow-
ingly. Please forgive me and help me to learn to have faith and trust in You completely.
Help me to surrender my total life to You, not holding back any part, not even the
smallest part. I want to be totally Yours in all ways.

Help me to find the quiet time to spend with You, not squeezing You in at the end of my
busy day when I am too tired to listen to what You have to say to me.

I pray for my children who do not know You. I fear for them, Lord. Please let them see
You shining in my life, see the changes You have made in me, and bring them to You.

Please help me to bring my anxieties, concerns and fears to You before they overwhelm
me, not after!! Help me to seek You more and more each moment of my life.

• Write a list of what you have talked with God about today.

Trust
Confidence
Surrender

Fear, anxieties
Feeling overwhelmed
